I remember a Burns and Allen show (thank goodness for reruns) where Gracie is visited by a refrigerator sales man. She announces to George later how much she has saved them by buying herself and all their friends nw refrigerators.
George being the straight man tries unsuccessfully to explain to Gracie that when you buy something you don't need on sale that it really isn't a savings. I stopped by the grocery store this evening for wheat bagels and whipped cream cheese. I saved $37.80 but before you call me Gracie ~ the meat was 5 for $19.99 and my favorite yogurt was on sale for fifty cents. I hadn't bought groceries in several weeks and the refrigerator was bare.
