I don't remember what I saw on Facebook but this is how I modified it. We had frozen apples that were sprinkled with cinnamon before freezing.
I thawed them and added 1/2 cup sugar and a tablespoon of corn starch. I brought it to a boil and let it simmer allowing the sugar to thicken.
The online recipe called for cinnamon rolls from a tube to be sliced into thirds and rolled out.i found out after the first of five rolls that ours were too small and too few.
I changed plans and used a roll of croissant dough for the base. Then I put the apple mixture in the tin.
I added 1/2 cup brown sugar and a stick of butter in the pan and brought it to a boil. Then I added a dash of vanilla.
I poured the "caramel" mixture over the apples. I had a better picture but I accidentally discarded it. (Sorry still getting used to this new app.)
I finished rolling out the cinnamon rolls and placed them on top. There are holes periodically but that is okay for me.
The pie was so full that I decided to take the precaution of putting it in another pan with an aluminum liner. That was a good choice it made a big mess!
When it cooled I drizzled the frosting from the cinnamon roll tube on top. I guess that I knew we were going to have unexpected company. I made this Saturday night and it is gone already!
I should have saved part of the caramel for the top. It was good but it didn't pack the caramel punch that I was hoping for.
