I challenged back "where does God say he is only going to give us what we can handle?" After all, why do people have a tendency to think that God would pour troubles onto his children?
Our troubles come from living in a sinful world. There are consequences of sin. Some are passed down from our ancestors in generational sins. Some are passed on from other people who impose their freedom of choice on those around them with negative influences and consequences. (For instance, someone that chooses to steal from another or rape another person is using their freewill to take away another persons freewill.) Some consequences come from our own sins.

The verses are encouragements for those who are going through temptations and trials. "God is faithful...he will provide a way out...blessed is the one who perseveres under trial" God does not give us what he thinks we can handle but he does give us THROUGH HIM the strength to handle what comes our way. I would add to the verses given to me a favorite verse of mine. Philippians 4:13 The key is that we need to turn it over to Him. So the final portion of my answer is that yes, God wants us to turn our lives over to Him. Not one part but every part including the good, bad and ugly.
James 1:12
