Foodies on the go

I have worked the last two week in Houston, Texas.  My co-workers and I have been staying at an extended stay hotel.  So we don't always go out.  I decided to share a few of my favorite meals.  Across from the hotel is a Japanese restaurant "Umami Sushi".
Udon
The Udon was served with Shrimp tempura on the side. Normally it is served on the top of the soup and the crispy tempura gets soggy.  It was nice to have it served on the side.

My co-worker ordered a sushi roll named "Sky Diver" which was made from soft shell crab, topped with Unagi (eel), avocado and special sauce.  She was gracious enough to share a few pieces with me.
Sushi
There is nothing like a Texas BBQ.  It is nothing at all like barbeque in Minnesota.  In Texas it is seasoned meat that is slow cooked and often times smoked until it is tender.  I enjoyed some BBQ meat on top of a salad at Pappas in the  airport.

There is a grill behind the hotel where we stay.  They also serve a complementary supper in the evening.  One evening I had a salad and green beans with the steak that we bought at the grocery store and grilled out.

I walked over one evening and picked up an eel and avocado sushi roll  and a bowl of Udon to go when the others ate the hotel food.  I might slowly work my way through the sushi rolls at Umami Sushi at 102 North Highway 6, in Houston, Texas.

We went out with the clients one evening.  We were at a bar and grill and that can be difficult to find either good or healthy food.  I ordered a burger without a bun and cheese sticks.  It is a way that I can try to keep the carbs low.

I packed coconut flour, cinnamon and liquid stevia (vanilla flavor) with me from home.  I bought the rest of the supplies at a grocery store in the neighborhood.  The hotel has their waffle machine.  I mixed my special waffle mix and made waffles every morning for breakfast.  They also had cinnamon on the side.  So I put just a couple pieces of fruit on the top and sprinkled it with cinnamon.  It tasted good and looked pretty.

The salad one evening at the hotel was an oriental salad with chicken teriyaki strips.  I only had a little bit of chicken because I was planning to have a steak later.

My main meal for the evening was a steak that I had marinated in wine.  Again this was an evening that we used the grill at the hotel instead of eating out.

What can I say?  I love food!  .....and most days I accept the challenge of finding a way to eat out and stay healthy.
