May 31, 2018

I'm catching up on New Year's day and wow, did I need this post! Dale's brother Bob was here today in the single digit temperatures with his pickup plowing out the big drifts from the driveway.
I can't wait to see these tiny flowers next spring!

What is blooming end of May?

Every time that I get almost caught up, I fall back behind. (I wrote this on June 6th, 2018 and it is January 1st, 2019.)
I always enjoy walking around and seeing the blooms.
The Japanese peony below only had a couple of blooms this year.
But they were very pretty.
The dogs enjoyed following me around the yard.
I nearly missed this traditional bloom hiding in the shade behind the house.
They are tiny yet perfectly formed.
It is a shame to have these beautiful flowers behind the house.
I was glad to see my trimming didn't totally kill the shrubs

The mystery of the farm

We have yet to see a bird any where near this nest.  It was built between several dog kennel fences which Dale purchased to make the new layer yard larger.
It is too big for a hummingbird nest but it is still fairly small.
It was threatening to rain that day as I took the dogs for a walk.
Oh no! Look at the ugly man in the clouds with a pointed chin and nose, curly eyebrow and hair combed forward mocking Elvis Presley big hairdo.
The scary man retreated and the rain rolled in.  That meant it was time to take the dogs inside.

A hard winter 5/30/2018

Several bushes including this rose bush were hard hit this past winter.   I was waiting to trim hoping that more life would show. This is a hardy traditional rose bush.
I finally trimmed it. I guess that will be better for mowing.
The same day I decided to make a bacon cheeseburger roll.
It is a layer of woven bacon, hamburger,  cheese, onions that get rolled into a log.
It was a beautiful picture-perfect day.
Peak! Is it done yet? Not quite....just a little while longer.
DONE!!!!
Delicious!
It looks like a bit of a storm formed in the evening. Or maybe it was just a dramatic start to a sunset?
When all was said and done, the rose bush is healthy again.

Since I was gone ...

A duck is roosting again. This one might make it because she is serious.
As I  took a few steps forward she fanned her tail at me and hissed.
The blue bunting are back. I love their vibrant color of blue.
The new chicks arrived. They will be butchered in about 7 weeks.
The Orioles are back.
Dale bought a new feeder.
The layers are in their new home.
The purple lilacs are almost done blooming.
The white lilacs survived ... barely.
They are amazingly beautiful!
The Virginia Blue Bells are in full bloom.  I love spring but it sprung while I was gone.

Going home (from Maryland)

Friday May 25th I headed home from Maryland. By the TSA screening area, were birds made out of the words, "security " and "security checkpoint".
